5th Team Home versus Harlow - good chance of breaking our losing run? Some hope!!
First up was Ian S against jack-in-the-box Peter at string 4. Despite getting some good points on his opponent's serve, Ian's generous demeanour and kindly outlook felt compelled to return the serve immediately every time.
Home versus Harlow - good chance of breaking our losing run - some hope!!
First up was Ian S against jack-in-the-box Peter at string 4. Despite getting some good points on his opponent's serve, Ian's generous demeanour and kindly outlook felt compelled to return the serve immediately every time. Bouncy Peter took advantage of this kindly attitude and duly stole the first game 7-15. In the second Ian finally realised he was allowed to win points on his own serve but at 10-10 he felt sorry for poor Peter and handed over the loot to go down 11-15. The third again saw Peter whirling about court getting to everything and Ian went down 7-15 for a 0-3 loss.
On the other court James was having a bash with Big Dan. I didn't see any of the game as I was marking but the scoresheet shows James having full control in the first with a 15-8 win. The next three games were all very tight but with James constantly tripping over Desperate Dan's cow pies he never got ahead and went down 12-15 13-15 11-15 for a 1-3 loss.
Out of hibernation on the other court was John at 5 up against Richard. The Beattmeister Beast was snorting away and powered his way to a good lead in the first only to let Richard back into the game but at 10-10 he took control again and won it 15-11. I missed the rest but the scoresheet shows John taking a good lead and just keeping it to take it 15-11. In the third the non-stop Richard starting coming back and took early control. Despite some pawing at the ground the Beast couldn't pull it back and went down 9-15. The fourth saw Richard take an early lead and keep it most of the game only for John to pull it back a bit at the end but to no avail - 12-15 and it's 2-2. Looks like John is snatching defeat from the jaws of victory but a final spurt in the last saw John take it 15-11 for a 3-2 win.
Back on the other court I was up against Mike at 2. Unfortunately this was a bit of a mismatch with Mike always being the better player and, despite me getting a game point in the third ,I went down 10-15 8-15 14-16 for a 0-3 loss.
Last up at 1 was Rob with a dodgy shoulder against the unbeaten Ian. The first saw why Ian was unbeaten with Rob just unable to keep up and he went down 1-15. Despite some good rallying and a couple of great winners Ian's ability to get to just about everything saw a 5-15 loss. The third went the same way with a 3-15 loss for a 0-3 match loss.
A third successive 1-4 defeat for a 4-19 match score sees us still hanging on to 8th place but our average points score has dropped below 9.0 for the first time this season.
