Club Night Challenge 2011 finishes on a high!
Over 4 Sunday evenings Club Night Challenge reached finals night on the 22 May and it was an evening to remember. Whilst the evening began with some close games between Mark Fitton and Peter Heir (21-20), Iain Gouldson and Peter Heir again! (21-20) and Alan Naughton and Simon McNeil who forgot their game was to 15 yet ended it 21-19, it did not take long for the quality to shine through...
Jake Byrne continued to show his competitive edge through his Eric Bristow style “crafty” disguised shots and Tom Trueman dancing around the court retrieving the ball from what appeared impossible situations, it was the semi final between Tom Trueman and Alan Naughton which proved an extremely tight game with Tom winning 15-14. Meanwhile in the other semi-final between Peter Banhidai and Mark Fitton, despite Mark battling to the end, Peter took the game 21-16 setting up the grand final between Tom Trueman and Peter Banhidai.
With Peter taking an early lead of 14 points (okay..it was something to do with the handicap!), Tom began his ascent, taking the first 10 points to Peter’s nil, with Peter suffering from a lack of oxygen after reaching the dizzy heights of the final. However, Peter was not going to loose this game without a fight. Once aclimatised, Peter started to make an impression with blood being spilt through some amazing dives that Tom Daly would be proud of and chasing every point possible. However, with Tom remaining as cool as the Everest summit, Tom took the lead and with one final push took the match 21-18 to win on the night and take the £10 light meter prize.
However, despite Tom winning the evening challenge, Peter should equally be congratulated as he took the Challenge Series by a convincing 28 points, winning not only £10 of light meter time but also an engraved trophy from Andrew Mulvey (see above).
Over the four month Challenge Series, we had over 20 individuals take part, winning £50 in light meter vouchers, whilst at the same time keeping the series fun and light hearted.
Thank you all for making the series so much fun and hope to see many more of you at the next Challenge tournament so please watch this space.....
