Kath “England wants YOU!”
Congratulations are in order this week to Bishop’s Stortford Squash Club player, Kath Kemp, who received a very important phone call on Thursday 4th March…”Kath, we’d like you to come and play for England!”
Her hard work playing in the various tournaments, coupled with her training and perseverance through injury had paid off and now she had made it into the England Over 50’s squad, quite an achievement! After all, it’s not something you can just ask for and walk straight into. Selection is based on the number of points accrued and/or merit through competing in multiple tournaments such as the British Open, Nationals and Regional “Masters” competitions throughout the season. So only a select few are even considered.
Kath will join a squad made up of six players who will each play a minimum of 2 games in the upcoming tournament in Dublin and will play against Scotland, Ireland and Wales over two days in early May.
When asked about what it feels like to have made the national squad, Kath said "After spending most of last season injured, I have worked hard on my off court fitness using a programme devised by one of my squash playing friends together with on court training provided by Lauren Selby.  I think it would be fair to say I was ecstatic when I found out I had made the team as this was a goal I set out to achieve when I started competing in the masters circuit a few years ago."
Congratulations Kath, we’ll all be supporting you when you play, good luck.
