Brogan Lane has experienced an unprecedented series of major wins this season and after only three and a half years playing as a junior. By far her most notable success was being selected to play for England in a three-girl U15 team playing Scotland, Ireland and Wales in the home internationals in May.
She never dropped a game in Dublin over the entire weekend and this became a springboard in her the confidence to carry on that winning streak.
On June 1st she also reached the final of the German Junior Open. Her greatest European success ever. As one of only three English junior players competing in the Munich tournament, Brogan reached the final without dropping a game, only to be met by one of Egypt’s rising stars, Laila Omar.
The match was close in places with Brogan leading in the final game but unable to dominate and contain her very skilful opponent in the back of the court. She eventually lost 3/11 2/11 7/11.
This valuable competition gave her the chance to see some of her key opponents in the forthcoming Pioneer Junior cup in Germany 3rd July.
The season has gone from strength to strength and as a 14 year old, she has already won three major under 17 England squash silver events as well as the Welsh Junior Open U15’s, 3rd in the National Championships as well as that senior ladies county title.
She is currently riding high in the European rankings at No 8 and pushing for No 2 spot in the England U15’s rankings.
With success comes small financial trappings such as prize money and continued sponsorship from Prince, Harpers Leisure, Asda, Uttlesford District Council and Birchwood High School, all of who make tournaments travel possible.
She has a final programme of training before completing her season in Cologne in the Pioneer along with fellow Stortford players Tim, Charlie and Oli. After Cologne, it's time for a well earned rest and a holiday.
Brogan would like to thank Becky and the many Stortford club players for training and matches. Without this invaluable structure, she just couldn’t compete at this high level.
