Friday 6th March was Finals Night for the Balsham Bowl and Challengers Tournaments.
The Balsham Bowl Tournament was introduced by Derek Hegerty almost 19 years ago for the ‘B’ league players.
The Balsham Bowl
This year saw another new name on the board (and his first appearance too) – Alasdair McKerrell.
Alasdair faced last year’s winner – Jerry Walton in the final and after some great rallies and a long and exhausting 3rd game Alasdair eventually won 3/1. Well done Alasdair!
The Balsham Bowl Plate
The plate final was an even longer and closer match, which again saw another new name on the winner’s podium!
Dave Mead faced none other than Bowl founder Derek Hegerty himself. Derek’s experience showed in the first 2 games securing a 2-0 lead, much to the delight of Moira Hegerty who was sitting nervously in the bar away from the squash in case she brought Derek bad luck by watching!! Moira’s theory didn’t go to plan because Dave’s younger legs began to get the better of Derek and he won the next 3 games completing a 3/2 victory.
The Challengers (A League players or below)
Unfortunately a late injury to Adam Wilder saw the postponement of the Challengers Final, his opponent – John Preston is now off on his travels to Australia so we hope to reschedule to late April – date to be advised.
The Challengers Plate
The Plate Final did take place between Richard Wood (Woody) and Mark Smith. It too was a close, hard fought match with new member Mark finally winning 3/1 to collect his first trophy at the club.
Well done everyone and a big thank you goes out to everybody that took part.
Karen
