Jake and Hannah take the honours

propsmallClub Night Challenge 2010 reached its thrilling climax a couple of weeks ago, when Jake Byrne had to do his best to keep all challengers at bay to defend the impressive, but not unassailable lead he had built up over the course of the tournament.

As with all previous tournaments, the turnout was excellent, sportsmanship was of the highest standard and of course, everyone had a great time, which is the most important thing of all.

Jake knew that he needed to finish in the top four to be in with a chance of winning the overall Tournament Cup (yes, there is a real cup to win), just in case any of his close rivals had a particularly good evening and attempted to steal his crown. As it happened, he didn't need to worry and relaxed and just enjoyed himself. Perhaps a little too much, because up and coming junior, Hannah Mulvey took full advantage of her +8 / -10 handicap, beating Jake in the semi final 15/9.

gplayercnc_vAndrew Bayley and Alan Naughton fought the the other semi, with Alan going through 15/12, leaving Alan to face Hannah the Giant Killer.

Again Hannah, with the advantage of a handicap and what can only be described as "Fluttering Eyelashes", romped home to a 15/10 win over Alan to be the Round 5 Winner, but that was not enough to steal the overall win from Jake, who almost had to give up "X-Factor Live" tickets to ensure he didn't miss the all important final round of Club night Challenge 2010. To see who scored what and when, download the full list of scores here

Well that rounds off another fabulous season. Our thanks go to all of the players who regularly turned up to join in, we hope you all enjoyed it and found it worthwhile.

Keep your eyes open for news of the next season........

We are pleased to confirm that as from 1st July 2010 Andrew Mulvey has officially been appointed the club’s new manager, having taken over the position from Karen Selby.

Although this is a complete change of direction for him (having worked for the same Investment Management Company for the past 23 years turning his hand to many different tasks along the way), in his “spare time” he has been very actively involved in the squash world.
