We welcome players of all standards to join our leagues and have the following types available for you to enjoy:

Squash Leagues

There are 4 main leagues available for you to play in. These consist of 4 levels each (except Premier), eg, A1, A2, A3 & A4, with 2 groups of 5 players in each, so 8 groups in total. This allows you to continually play different players each month, even if you do not move up or down. During Winter, the leagues are one month long and during Summer they are six weeks long.

  • Premier League - 1 Group of 5 players, for the most serious players, the lowest 2 scoring players go down to P1 each month
  • P Leagues - 8 Groups of 5 players, for advanced to serious players, the highest 2 players go up a league, the lowest 2 go down each month
  • A Leagues - 8 Groups of 5 players, for intermediate players, the highest 2 players go up a league, the lowest 2 go down each month
  • B Leagues - Up to 8 Groups of 5 players, for beginners to intermediate players, the highest 2 players go up a league, the lowest 2 go down each month

To join any of the leagues, please let Andrew Mulvey know or sign up on the board between courts 2 and 3.

A brief summary of Bishop’s Stortford Squash & Racketball Club

About Us :
The Club was founded in 1950 and is one of the strongest and friendliest clubs in the South East. In 2003, the Club underwent a complete refurbishment and continues to maintain a high standard and comfortable environment.  The club is managed by Andrew Mulvey with the support of a voluntary club committee.

Teams :
Our 1st team regularly plays in the top division of the Herts and sometimes Essex leagues and has previously won both titles. We have other men’s, ladies, veterans and junior teams in the Herts and Essex leagues in addition to playing in national competitions.

Courts :
There are six courts including 3 glass-backed show courts. The courts are generally cleaned every day and have a full maintenance service once every year.  On joining the Club you will be issued with a swipe-card allowing you entry to the Club 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Please do not give this card to anyone else. Non-marking and clean shoes only must be worn on all courts.

Membership :
We maintain a membership of approximately 300 people. Annual subscriptions are competitive for a club of its size and facilities (see website for current rates).  There is an additional once only joining fee for new members. Family, senior and student rates are also available.

Leagues :
There are winter (monthly cycle) and summer (six weekly cycles) leagues for all standards. Results are maintained ‘online’ - please contact the manager to enter.

The Club has a number of qualified coaches and one-to-one coaching is available from elementary and safety level to international standard. Please contact the Manager Andrew Mulvey for more details.

Playing Procedure :
The booking system operates by signing the playing board in the lounge on arrival. When your opponent arrives and signs opposite your name you may play on the next available court, or in rotation should there be a queue at peak times. You do not need to book a specific court in advance to play. Light meters accept a full range of coins and we will shortly be extending the card-swipe system to include meters and the bar.  Current meter fees are available on our website.

Bar & Social :
The bar offers several popular beers plus frequently rotated guest real ales.  The bar is open Monday to Friday from 6.00pm, Saturday between 3.00pm and 7.00pm and Sunday from 6.00pm. There are frequent sporting and social events throughout the year, details of which are posted in the Club and on the website.

Club Nights :
These occur on Wednesdays and Sundays from 6.45pm.  Sign in and play the next available player whatever their standard in as many games as you can manage  -  very convenient for new members looking for a game and wanting to meet other members.  The time per match is limited compared with a normal match to avoid queues but you can usually get in between 2-3 games per opponent. Please do not arrange  league games on club nights after 6.15pm.

Tournaments :
Club tournaments are held throughout the year including the Club Handicap Tournament, the Open Championship, the Balsham Bowl, The Doubles Tournament and age group tournaments.  Notices and entry sheets will be posted around the Club and on the website in advance. Racketball is also played.

Juniors :
The Club has a thriving junior section for boys and girls from elementary and safety stage (approximately five years old) through to match-play standard. Our Junior teams have won county league honours and we have several county and nationally ranked juniors.

The club shop stocks a large amount of popular brands and if you can’t see what you want the shop staff  will try to get it for you at a good price.

Website and e-mail:
Please look around this website for more information on matches, leagues, juniors, social events, news and all other club associated information. Once having joined – please make sure you register for a club member account to ensure you can access the club membership information, view your club league information and receive regular news updates from the manager (unless you decline this service)
