Local Win in TEB 09
The weekend of 12/13th December saw the club host one of our favourite annual junior tournaments, the Tom Elton Barratt.
Local player Nick Mulvey rounded off a great year by winning the Boys Under 17 and the tournament to add to his recent success in the
club handicap.
Nick had his sights on winning this year as it was his last chance to take home this coveted trophy and suffering with a nasty chest infection, Nick paced his early matches well,
knowing he would likely meet UK U15 No1 Richie Fallows in the final and needed to conserve
every ounce of energy if he was to keep pace. The final between Nick and Richie was a delight to watch. Good honest squash, great variety and tactics and with both players
using every inch of available court space, it made for a perfect final match for fans of both players to get behind. Even with his hacking cough between rallies,
ultimately, Nick was just too strong for Richie, winning 3-1.
This year was particularly significant as it is the 25th year since the tournament began and Karen Selby's last at the club. As usual, she organised
a fantastic event, something that is all too easy to take for granted, but the weeks of preparation paid off with every match being started on time
and most starting early. 100 players and 150 matches makes for a very busy club, but the atmosphere was electric with all the players and parents
eager to mark matches, all hoping to win a family ticket for the X-Factor Live tour at either Wembley or the O2 kindly provided by Tournament Sponsor
ChurchleySmith and some X-Box games donated by HMV.
A new addition this year was the availability on the plasma screen of PSA matches, keeping players and parents entertained whilst waiting for their next matches,
then toward the end of the weekend, the tournament winner's names were displayed as soon as the results came in.

The BIGGEST event of the year here so far in the East is coming - The England Squash Junior Regional Closed Championships 2010

This year’s extravaganza will be held on 11th & 12th September 2010 at Bishop’s Stortford Squash Club and will be run completely by England Squash regional office staff.

NEW to this year’s event will be the inclusion of the under 19’s, allowing those who may have thought they would miss out due to age, to try their hand again.
