It's a Stortford Double at ERC '09

BroganNickIt was a busy weekend at the club on the 5th/6th September as we hosted the East Regional Junior Closed Tournament 2009 on behalf of England Squash.

Nick Mulvey and Brogan Lane followed up their wins in the Herts Junior Open earlier in the year with confident wins over their opponents in the finals against Niall Engerer and Jemma Ockwell, to give Bishops Stortford Squash Club the titles for both the Boys U17 and Girls U17 divisions, well done Nick and Brogan, another fantastic result.

With 82 entrants from Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk and Bedfordshire, the competition was always going to be fierce and at times a little heated in the 160+ matches being played. With fantastic support from the Selby and Mulvey households and committee members Kath Kemp and Nick Ridgway, the tournament ran like clockwork (we do have reputation to protect after all) and even with the added complication of the National Deaf Championships being held on Sunday afternoon as well, all matches were still played on time and courts freed off for members use again as planned.

So a huge thank you goes out to everyone who participated and helped, to make the tournament such a success.

Here at Bishops Stortford Squash Club we actively encourage all our members to participate in the leagues as they are not just a source of great matches, but also of social connections, especially for our newer members of whom we have had so many in recent months. However, we've seen a recent trend for players requesting to join the leagues and then not playing any matches during the course of the month without giving any reason for doing so.
