JUNIOR RESULTS
Congratulations to Brogan Lane who won the Ladies Herts Closed last month. Brogan became the youngest player ever to win this competition after beating no 1 seed and defending champion Isobel Smith 3-2 in a hotly contested semi final before going on to win the final and claim the title.
Our under 11’s boys maintained their lead at the top of division 2 in the Herts League following wins over Harpenden and Cannons for Matthew Griffith, William Johnson and James Beattie in their penultimate fixture of the season.
With three of the County teams through to Stage 2 of the Inter County Championships the challenge for a place in the finals kicked off with the Under 19 boys – Phil Waller (Hazlewood), Tim Dixon (Stortford), Nick Mulvey (Stortford), Nathan Derrick (R3) and Luke Stewart (Radlett). The boys got off to a good start securing a 3-2 win over Buckinghamshire before bowing out to an exceedingly strong Surrey side who fielded 3 top 15 juniors in their team. The Stortford duo Tim Dixon and Nick Mulvey performed exceptionally well with Tim claiming one of his best victories to date beating the England no 6 David Wardle.
The under 13’s girls – Hannah Daly (Broxbourne), Grace Gear (Gosling), Hannah Mulvey (Stortford), Amy Reynolds (Gosling) faced some very tough opposition from Northumbria, Buckinghamshire and Leicestershire in their Stage 2. Although all the girls played their best it just wasn’t quite enough to secure a match.
The under 17’s boys, with only the one change from the under 19’s team replacing Luke with Louis Drake (R3), won the morning’s matches 5-0 against Berkshire, however the post lunch games were going to prove tougher against the stronger Warwickshire side. The Herts team, who won the Inter County title 2 years ago at under 15’s were not going to give in easily and we weren’t disappointed with their tenacity when a 4-1 victory secured their place in the finals to be held in Northamptonshire next month.

BSSC JUNIOR COMMITTEE
A vacancy has arisen on the Stortford Junior Committee. The committee was formed 18 months ago with the purpose of giving juniors a voice both within the Club and the County. All junior members are eligible to stand for election. If you would like to be considered or would like some more information, please contact Karen Selby, Catherine Mulvey or any of the committee members.
