TOURNAMENT RESULTS
Following in the footsteps of the Dixon brothers, the annual club handicap tournament was won for a third consecutive year by another of our juniors. Nick Mulvey (on -35) narrowly clinched the semi final over defending champion Tim Dixon (on -40) before entering into an epic battle for the title with the aged 22 year old Matt Delaney (on -28). At one game all and 9-8 up, it was Matt who took the next 10 out of 11 points, then just when you think it’s all over, 15 year old Nick staged a nail biting come back to take the match 21-20!
Several of our juniors have been competing away from home at various events over the past couple of weeks. Five of our boys shone at the last graded tournament in Harpenden. Congratulations to Tommy Albright, Matthew Griffith and Joseph Senior who finished top of their relative groups with Oliver Rhoda and Sam Senior runners up in theirs. Fantastic results all round with Oliver having only lost to Matthew in the final and Joseph playing in his first competition, it’s great to see our younger players coming through and having such success within the county.
Meanwhile, Oli and Tim Dixon, Nick and Hannah Mulvey and Brogan Lane spent most of their holidays a little further afield competing in the Pontefract Junior Open closely followed by the British Junior Open in Sheffield. The BJO is the largest national event and attracts the top players from all over the world so not only were they competing with the best they were also witness to some terrific matches. HERTS JUNIOR OPEN
Continuing with the tournament theme, Stortford will once again be hosting the Herts Junior Open which last year attracted over 250 entrants. The competition will run over three days from Friday 10th April – Sunday 12th April and is open to all boys and girls from under 11’s to under 17’s. This is a great opportunity for our members to experience playing other juniors in an England Squash Sanctioned Event without having to travel half way across the country! Entry forms can be downloaded from our website. Please note the closing date is Monday 23rd March, we will not be able to accept entries after this date.
