Club Championships

A reminder that the closing date for the Club Champs is on Monday – hurry up & enter!!

Sunday Opening

It would seem that we are not going to have a summer this year and it is going to rain every Sunday for the foreseeable future, therefore what better way to spend your Sunday than playing squash! The bar is now open every Sunday from 11am – 11pm, we look forward to seeing you.

Lifestyle Fitness

Sharon Long & Karen Hoy, who run the gym, have decided that they will be leaving at the end of this month, we wish them well and thank them both for their time at the Club. We are currently investigating alternative uses for the area and will let know as soon as there is anything to report.

Health Centre Development

You may have read an article in this week’s Observer that mentions a possible Health Centre Development at Silver Leys. I would just like to reassure you that the Committee & I are aware of the proposal & I have attended two meetings to date with the other clubs on the site. If the development does go ahead (the proposals are at a very early stage) then I would hope that the Club would ultimately benefit. I will keep you informed of any progress.

Valuables

Unfortunately one of our members had a wallet & mobile phone stolen this morning from the Men’s Changing Room. Please can I urge you not to leave valuables in the changing rooms. We are reviewing security again and will do everything we can to prevent this happening again.

Have a good weekend

Best wishes

Saturday 12th April 2008

Dear All

I haven’t sent an email for a couple of weeks which means there is rather a lot to tell you (sorry), so sit down and read on!

Herts Junior Open

Thanks to all the members who kindly gave up 3 days of squash to allow us to run the Herts Junior Open over the Easter Weekend. The tournament was a huge success, with 240 entrants it was the 2nd largest junior tournament in the Country after the British Junior Open. With some wonderful volunteers helping we managed to play 360 matches! (This could be what has delayed my emails – I have only just recovered!!)

Congratulations to Brogan Lane and Nick Mulvey - Stortford Juniors, who both won their respective U15 events. The event was also successful from a financial point of view and will make a significant contribution towards the new bar furniture – thank you again to players, volunteers and members.

Herts Leagues

Congratulations to Kath Kemp and her excellent team of Ladies who narrowly finished 2nd to Haileybury in Herts Division 1 Winter League. The men’s results will follow in the next email.

Ladies 035 National Clubs and Charity Doubles match

This coming Friday 18th April will see a great evening of squash at the Club. At 4pm the Ladies 035 take on Cheam in the National Clubs Championships followed at 7pm by a Charity Doubles match.

Juniors - Olly Dixon and Sammy Chambers (England No. 3 U17) will be taking on the experienced and slightly older Iain Higgins and Fred Cooke.

Any money raised for the match on the evening & through the odd flutter through ‘Ticehurst Bookmakers’ will go to a charity of the winning pair’s choice.

Please come along and support both matches.

National Clubs Finals

Our Men’s 1st Team have reached the finals of the National Clubs Championships and will be hoping to win the title for the second time. The finals take place at Nottingham Squash Club on 17th & 18th May.

It should be a very exciting weekend of top squash & our team will appreciate as much support as possible. I will be booking hotel rooms by the end of next week so if you would like to be included please let me know either by email or telephone.

Club Championships

Wednesday 19th March 2008

Hi,

Just a very brief email and a quick reminder that the Herts Junior Open is taking place from Friday through to Sunday, with 230 juniors taking part the courts & the club will be busy! Court 5 is available for members.

Your patience is appreciated, especially as the event will bring additional revenue to the club.

Jason Foster

As I’m sure you know Jason & his family moved to Derby in October. Since then Jason has been working for the Essex Police, based in Epping which has been great for us because he has been able to make regular appearances at the Club. However Jason will be moving to Leicestershire Police next week and therefore his visits to Bishop’s Stortford will be less frequent. Consequently I have been asked to let you know that an informal leaving evening has been arranged for Jason this Friday – all welcome!

Rough details as follows:

5pm meet at the Club for a beer followed by bowling, a curry & possibly another beer or two!! – Enjoy

Squash Tour

Clive Ticehurst has kindly offered to organise the next Squash Club Tour – Riga (Latvia) 17th – 19th October 2008.

If you are interested or would like further information please see the notice on the bar or contact Clive – clive@marlinlogistics.com

Have a Happy Easter.

Best wishes

Karen Selby

Friday 14th March 2008

Hi,

Congratulations to the finalists of the Challengers Tournament:

The Plate final was a hotly contested match between James Barrett and Sharmila Devi and for the 3rd year in a row James was the winner – 3/1.

The Challengers final was between the young James Morris and the slightly over 21 Ian Lennox! Ian played very well but James had the edge throughout the match and eventually won 3-0.

Well done to all the players and thanks to those who came to support – pictures will be on the website very shortly.

Racketball

The Racketball Evening last Friday was a great success, thanks to everyone for coming to watch & taking part. A Racketball League will start on 1st April, if you would like to join please add your name to the list by the box leagues or drop me an email.

Easter Weekend & The Herts Junior Open

Next weekend we will be hosting and running the Herts Junior Open Tournament, we have received a record entry – 227 players between the ages of 8 and16!

The Tournament will begin at 9am on Good Friday 21st March and finish at approx 5pm on Easter Sunday when I and all the helpers and volunteers will probably collapse with exhaustion!! .

We will be using 5 courts for the duration of the event, court 5 will be available for members at all times. I hope that courts will be available on Friday and Saturday evening from approx 7pm.

With so many players taking part we will no doubt be extremely busy so if any of you have a couple of hours free to help you will be most welcome! If you are able to help please contact me ASAP. Alternatively if you would just like to come and watch some of the best young squash players in the Country just pop in.

Easter Monday – All the courts are available and the bar will be open between 3pm – 6.30pm.

Sunday Opening

The bar will now be open every Sunday from 11am – evening close. Sunday papers & coffee available!

Hope you have a good weekend, see you soon

Best wishes,
